Caitlyn Jenner made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night to promote her new book The Secrets of My Life.
At first, things were going just fine and dandy. You could even say the interview was inspiring. Jenner opened up about her faith, her transition and her family in groundbreaking ways we've haven't heard before.
She even addressed how she came out to her family. Considering there were rumors that Caitlyn was gender fluid for years, she knew she had to tell her family the truth before they found out through a headline.
"I'm a person of faith and the last thing I had to get through was, 'In God's eyes, how does he see me?,'" Jenner told Kimmel. "I was back in Malibu all by myself, and so I slowly went through, told all my children, because it had just been hammered all over the media."
Then things just got painfully awkward.
Caitlyn called Jimmy out for making transphobic jokes about her before and during her transition. First, Jimmy replied with some nervous laughter. Then, he got serious.
"We didn't know what was going on. Sorry about that," he said.
At first, Caitlyn joked about his late apology, but then accepted the gesture.
"I accept your apology," she said.
Whew! Now that was painful to watch. Better late than never though, right?
